Our reservation assured our table was ready for us at the requested time and we were seated promptly at a table with a great street view, The restaurant was attractive and within easy walking distance of the Taubman Museum of Art and many downtown shops. The menu featured a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes and our waiter was knowledgeable in helping to make our selections. The table setting was attractive, with a not-frequentlly-used- these-days cover plate on the table which was a lovely touch. Our food came quickly and was delicious. Portions were quite generous and the restaurant was very accommodating in providing eco-friendly and appropriate containers for our leftovers. The waitstaff was very attentive and polite. The thing that my girlfriend and I were a little shocked by, was the server added 18-20% gratuity to our check without asking. Was he supposed to do this? He would have gotten more money by not doing so. We had a large bill for two people. We both worked years in the restaurant industry as servers, and bartenders in college. We understand that it can be hard work and always tip very well, as long as we have a polite server.So, we really only had $.76 cents in savings. The server would have gotten at least a $25 tip. I left it as is, since he added his own $20 tip. The coupon said only to add gratuity to large parties.The money is not a big deal whatsoever, just the way they handled the gratuity was unprofessional and was the opposite of what the coupon said. Nawab serves the best quality and best tasting Indian food I have ever had. Their service is exceptional also.
Nawab has a nice atmosphere (very clean and neat), the food is always excellent, and the service is great too!
